What are essential oils?
Essential oils are volatile compounds distilled from the bark, leaves, roots, flowers, and fruit of plants. They are naturally occurring substances that are not produced in a laboratory.
But seriously…do they REALLY work?
Yes! They are not snake oils and they are not snake oils or hoodoo oils. There is scientific research to show how and why they work—it’s pretty fascinating stuff. (Check out www.aromaticscience.com if you are in the mood to do some reading!) Because our bodies are all so different, some oils work better for some more than others, and sometimes a bit of experimentation is required.
How do I use essential oils?
There are three main ways to use oils:

This is the option that initially comes to mind when most of us think of essential oils. Oils can be diffused into the air to purify and freshen it—as well as improving the moods and emotional states of those in the vicinity.

Our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs what we put on it. Essential oils can be applied on the body to provide a variety of therapeutic benefits. I recommend using a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil or olive oil to dilute most essential oils before applying them— especially oils such as cinnamon or peppermint which are “hot” oils. Never place essential oils in your eyes or ears. Essential Oil Safety for Kids || Essential Oils Guide Safety

Some essential oils can be ingested as a flavoring in foods. All of the doTERRA oils that are considered to be Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) for ingestion will have the FDA Supplement label information printed directly on the label. Because they are so potent, use caution when ingesting essential oils and never ingest oils that are not 100% pure.

Photosensitivity and Phototoxicity - Citrus oils are sensitive to the sun since they are made from the rind of fruit. Avoid direct sunlight to the exposed area for at least 12 hours of that location may have a skin irritation or burn. Oils applied underneath clothing should be fine.
I just applied an essential oil to my skin and now it’s burning! What do I do?
Rub a carrier oil such as coconut oil, olive oil or the fatty oil of your choice on the area to dilute the oil. Never try to wash a sensitive area with water as the water will drive the oil deeper into the skin. I recommend using carrier oils when applying essential oils topically—especially if you have sensitive skin.
How much of an oil should I use and how often?
It depends. Essential oils are not like conventional pharmaceuticals, so there are not really one-size-fits-all dosage suggestions. Every person has different body chemistry, so I suggest starting off small and repeating as needed until you figure out what your body prefers. Keep in mind that essential oils are incredibly potent and less is usually more. Click here to find out the Recommended ideal amounts for usage on adults and children.
Is doTERRA a pyramid scheme?
No. doTERRA is a very reputable direct-sales company with a proven track record. When you think about the complexities of essential oils, the direct-sales model totally makes sense. It would be hard to do these oils justice if they were just sitting on store shelves. doTERRA chose the network-marketing approach over traditional advertising to provide users with the ultimate network of mentors, knowledge, and support. They pay the wellness advocates instead of paying huge corporations millions of dollars to do their advertising.
Are there any business opportunities with doTERRA?
Yes! There are countless families, including my own, making an income by simply sharing doTERRA products.
I’m not interested in selling the oils—I just want to purchase some for my own use. Is that possible?
Absolutely! There are several different purchasing options available—I’ve included more detail information of starter kits and customizing order options on the Starter Kits page.
Why did you choose doTERRA over another essential oil Company?
If you spend much time online, then you’ve probably run across folks debating the topic of essential oil companies. It’s my policy not to talk about other essential oil companies - one, because I do not know about their products and two, because it's just not nice! My mom always said, "If you can't say something nice about someone, just don't say anything at all". Let's all choose to live a life of integrity.

They do so much more than what I am listing below, however, here are just a few reasons why I love doTERRA:

1)  doTERRA is ultra-committed to producing the highest-quality essential oils possible. I also love that they source their oils from their native environments all over the world. This results in a superior oil AND supports local economies all over the globe.

2) The company is spectacular to work with—the customer service is exceptional, the executives are some of the most genuine people I’ve ever seen, the compensation plan is unparalleled, and the support and training is like non other, everyone helps everyone, the teamwork is extraordinary.

3) doTERRA works to improve lives and communities throughout the world. Many of the essential oils offered by
doTERRA are sourced in developing countries, where the growers and distillers are often at the mercy of third parties.
doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing helps create coalitions of growers and distillers that ensure local communities receive fair and timely payments to support their families and communities. doTERRA works with these coalitions to provide the resources, tools, and training necessary to ensure a long-lasting partnership. Co-Impact Sourcing

4) doTERRA focuses generous efforts through the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. Its mission is to bring healing and hope to the world, for lives free of disease and poverty, and ultimately to teach impoverished cultures to be self-reliant. The foundation is supported by contributions from doTERRA independent distributors known as Wellness Advocates and retail customers, company employees and executives, and others who share their vision. Donations are collected through monthly contributions, one-time contributions, and select product sales.

5) Each batch of doTERRA essential oil goes through a battery of rigorous tests to ensure you and your family receive only the most pure, potent, and effective oils on earth. Source to You website enables you to enter your unique Quality ID to view GC/MS test results from an independent, verified third party lab. They are committed to providing you the highest quality oil, every time.
What does CPTG stand for?
Certified-Pure Therapeutic Grade. This is a term that is exclusive to doTERRA. Because no official standards for the essential oil industry exist, doTERRA uses the CPTG designation to represent their high-standards of purity and quality-control. Every batch of doTERRA essential oils undergo 5 different tests by a third-party laboratory to ensure that they absolutely pure, free of pesticides and chemicals, and above and beyond organic standards. Essential Oil Purity: CPTG Quality Testing
What does PV stand for?
PV stands for product volume. It is a point system that is used for all doTERRA products. For all the essential oils, $1 = 1 PV. However, some of the other items (such as skincare or toothpaste) have a slightly different ratio. If you are trying to qualify for a promotion, just be sure to check the PV total in your shopping cart before you check out, as it may be slightly different that than dollar amount total. When you join my team, things like this will be explained in more detail.
What does WA and WC stand for?
WA:Wellness Advocate.
When you enroll as a WA, it is a wholesale account. It allows you to save 25% on everything you order, plus you have the ability to sign up others and earn commissions. However, selling is NOT a requirement as an WA (there are NO minimums) and many people sign up with this option even if they simply want to purchase oils for their own family.

WC: Wellness Customer. When you enroll as a WC, it is also a wholesale account and it allows you to save 25% on everything you order, however, as a Wellness Customer you will not have the opportunity to have your own website, sign up others or earn commissions. It is very simple to upgrade to a Wellness Advocate if you decide to in the future.
What is the Loyalty Rewards Program?
The Loyalty Rewards Program (or LRP) is a monthly autoship program that gives you the absolute maximum savings for purchasing doTERRA products. The LRP is entirely optional, but I HIGHLY recommend it. (Because who doesn’t like saving money, right?) When you join my team we will have a consultation to describe this in more detail and how it can benefit you and your family needs.

Essential Oil Safety Tips

Please follow these guidelines to get the most out of your oils

1) Do not put in eyes, ears, or up nose!

2) Apply a small amount of oil to your skin to test for a skin reaction before using. Should irritation, redness, itching, or burning apply a carrier oil (coconut oil, olive oil, or a natural vegetable based oil) to the area to dilute the essential oil and stop the sensation. Do not use water! Applying water to the area can actually drive the burn in deeper.

3) Be sure to read labels prior to ingestion. Some oils should not be taken internally.

4) Citrus oils can cause photo-sensitivity in some people. Do not apply to exposed skin prior to being in the sun for extended periods.

5) It is important to remember that therapeutic-grade essential oils are highly-concentrated plant extracts and should be used with reasonable care. Typical application is 1 drop or less for most applications.

6) To improve absorption, slow evaporation, prevent skin sensitivity, and allow for the distribution of oils over a greater area, it is recommended to use carrier oil with all essential oils.

7) All essential oils should be diluted for children. Dilution rates vary based on age and size of child. See resources for dilution rates.

8) Children under 6 years of age should not ingest essential oils

9) When adding essential oils to a drink, make sure they are a safe grade of plastic. Your safest bet is to use glass, stainless steel or aluminum.
